Mark your calendars:

Beginning this summer we will also be offering a 4-legged Owl Bar Stool with a back. We are taking orders!
Thanks for your support.
Geoff & GWS Team
For the past couple of weeks we have been creating a walnut desk and credenza. Whenever I am enjoying the process of designing a new piece, I think of Tage Frid, my mentor at RISD. Tage, a highly skilled master, always reminded me to never compromise beauty or craftsmanship. We are pleased with our progress on a new live-edge desk and thought that you would enjoy a peak. Below is the original sketch of the desk and an image of me hand planing the top.
After Tim & I worked on the credenza, Polly helped me wash the dishes!!

We enjoy hearing from our customers and were recently touched by the story of Kenya. Kenya suffered a serious back injury as a child and found sitting for long periods playing her cello was uncomfortable. Last fall her mother and brother came to one of our workshops where he made Kenya an Owl Stool as a Christmas gift. When we visited her this winter, she beamed as she described how much more comfortable she is now. She said the first time she sat in an Owl stool:
“… my back just instantly relaxed, and that had never happened in a chair before.”
Give your back some comfort with an Owl stool.
While some of us are enjoying rolling around the office on our new Rolling Owl stools, other crew members are busy on our new addition. Framed in before the holidays, we have now completed the interior walls and have begun working on the shelving units. In addition to the new shop space, we’ll also be redesigning the gallery.
We look forward to having everyone over for a grand opening this summer!
Hats off to our staff!
I know that the work is never done. A big “Thank You” to the GWS team for their tireless efforts.
Stay tuned for news on our new website & summer workshop schedule.
Thank you for your support.

All of us at Geoffrey Warner Studio would like to thank you, our customers for the many orders and commissions that we have received in 2011. Due to your support, our increase in orders, and the micro grant/loan we received last spring from our town of Stonington, we are poised to add on a 500 sq. ft. addition to our furniture shop and to restore a larger gallery space which hope to for the busy 2012 summer season. We will also be increasing our inventory so that we can get Owl Furniture orders out with more efficiency and less wait time.
Look for our new Owl Furniture web page to be released shortly after the New Year.
And……come and visit us at the Stonington Holiday Fair, in the community center this weekend from 10 am until 2 pm. We will be offering 10% holiday discounts for any Owl stools or kits purchased before Christmas.

The Owl and the Peanut go to Providence
Months of hard work by everyone here at the studio have finally paid off and we are delighted to announce the birth of the Peanut Desk and the Rolling Owl in time to bring to the Fine Furnishings show in Providence, RI this coming weekend October 21st – 23rd.
A year in the making, these two pieces are close to our hearts and in keeping with the Owl Furniture philosophy which requires attention to beauty, economy and ergonomics. Additionally, these pieces are both light spirited and full of organic grace.
We have definitely had fun scooting around the shop on our Rolling Owls this week!

Cherry Peanut and Owl Chair
Elements of the style vocabulary seen in Geoff’s larger pieces have begun showing up in Owl furniture. Here you can see the arched knees, which are steam-bent, and an elongated foot, bringing a more substantial feeling to this desk. The curve of the live edge, similar to the form of the peanut, gives a feeling of space and allows for a more ergonomic flow when working.

So here we are, all packed, mostly . . . the rain is pounding and the pillows are calling. We need a restful night before the long drive south to Providence tomorrow A.M.
Please stop by our booth at the Providence Fine Furnishings Show this weekend if you are in the neighborhod.
Iana and Geoff would love to see you and you will be eligible to use this nifty coupon too!
We will be taking our line of Owl Furniture to the Providence Fine Furnishings and Fine Craft Show over the weekend of October 21-23rd. The show will be held in the Providence Convention Center http://www.finefurnishingsshow.com/
New designs being introduced at the show will be our popular ergonomic Owl seat on a pedestal and casters, named the Rolling Owl. We will also be introducing the Peanut an ergonomic desk for home or office use. The Rolling Owl and the Peanut are a perfect match to aid postural support and ergonomic ease in a work environment. Stay tuned for photos we will be posting on our blog next week. Come visit Geoff as he gives an Owl Stool building demo in our booth at the show.
Owl Stools make wonderful holiday gifts and can be purchased either in a kit or finished. We will be offering Owl Stool workshops in our Stonington shop on the Saturdays of November 19th, December 3rd and December 17th, for those who want to have a hand in making their own Owl Stool or to give a loved one. The shop is working hard to fill orders from a very busy summer season and they continue to roll in this fall, so it’s not to soon to place a gift order in time to give an Owl Stool for the holiday season. We have been delighted to see so many smiles around our Owl Stools this year.
We would like to give Fine Woodworking Magazine by the Taunton Press a big THANK YOU for publishing Jonathan Binzen’s skillfully written piece “Lively Bases for Live-Edged Tables” in the December 2011 issue on the back cover and in the how they did it section. Please visit www.finewoodworking.com
Geoffrey Warner Studio will be displaying more beautiful Live Edge work along with their growing line of Owl Furniture coming up at the Providence Fine Furnishings and Fine Craft Show October 21-23rd.
Please take the time to watch the short video that Jonathan Binzen skillfully created about Geoff and his work for Fine Woodworking Magazine.
We’ve had a very busy and productive summer at G.W.S. By following and honing our marketing plans and paying attention to details in the shop, office and gallery we continue to stay ahead of the eight ball. Orders for Owl Stools and workshop students have increased substantially since last year.
Over the past few weeks we have had an increase in gallery visits and are scheduling orders to keep us through the dark icy days of winter. If interested in commissioning work this is a good time to do so as we tend to get booked up quickly between now and Columbus Day. A short reminder that any commission over $2,500.00 will receive a complimentary 18″ Owl Stool kit. Owl Stools make great holiday gifts. We are continuing to try and keep parts in inventory to meet our customers demands. So if interested in giving a hoot and an Owl Stool to someone special, order soon as there are fluctuating lead times.
What’s coming up? We will be heading to the Common Ground Fair this weekend Friday-Sunday with the Owl Stools.
We also will be displaying at the Providence Fine Furnishings and Fine Craft Show for our second year.
A bit of final news we were written up in the Coastal Journal for displaying at the Maine Homes Boats and Harbors Show see the link below.
Last but not least we would like to introduce Polly, our new ten week old addition to the shop and to our lives. Come and meet Polly and visit us at Geoffrey Warner Studio.
