Summer Kick-Off!

Posted on: May 25th, 2012 by Geoffrey Warner No Comments

Memorial Day Weekend–ahhh, the true start of Summer for Mainers!  You can get ready for this season with BangorMetro.  The magazine just released their Summer issue–it’s full of ideas for exploring our region whether you are planning a stay-cation or touring the area with your summer guests.  Check-out the 8 Great Hikes.

BangorMetro’s summer issue also contains a pull-out section, “This is Maine –Your Complete Summer Guide for Memorial Day to Labor Day.” The booklet lists music, theater & other events for June, July & August and provides a good list of lighthouses and museums. This Summer Guide also offers a great description of surrounding towns–from Bangor, Belfast & Bar Harbor to Blue Hill and a wonderful description of Deer Isle/Stonington!

Thank you DIS Chamber of Commerce!

There’s no excuse–get out there and see something new this summer!  Enjoy.

We wish everyone a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!

One Door Opens…

We are always grateful when a publication showcases our work–it opens a door to a new set of viewers.  Thank you to Design New England who featured our new Rolling Owl Stools in their May/June issue.  Check out the “Local Wares” section and the other great features of this digital magazine.

Speaking of Doors — This week Geoff is heading to NYC to deliver the Live Edge Doors featured in an earlier blog.  Everyone is amazed by their beauty.  When we asked Geoff about the doors, he reflected: “These amazing live edge boards are as fine as any art or furniture I have seen. Nature’s beauty with a little help from our shop, gave a second life to what I’m sure were magnificent trees.  I wish I knew their history.”

Guess the Wood Type: Elm, Maple, Olive or Walnut? (answer in next blog)

Let us know if you would like a Live Edge board from Hearne Hardwoods.

Our plan is to fill the van for the trip home.

Custom Doors & What’s Yours?

Posted on: May 1st, 2012 by Geoffrey Warner 2 Comments

Our current project is four interior doors for a New York family. With the desire to bring nature and character into their NYC apartment, Geoff selected 4 different live edge wood panels—English Wych Elm, Olive, Big Leaf Maple and European Walnut. This project began with creating a mahogany frame for each door.  Each live edge board is then sanded and routed to accept the custom-shaped mahogany splines that fill the space between the live edge and frame. To bring out the beautiful wood grain, each panel will receive 3 coats of hand-rubbed tung oil. We look forward to showing you the final pieces in May.

Custom Piece Opportunity ~ What’s Your Dream?

Geoff will be delivering these custom doors and visiting Hearne Hardwoods mid-May.  If you would like to give some beautiful wood a second life, Geoff can select the perfect live edge board for your project.  Please contact Geoff to discuss your table, desk, door or other furniture.  Contact Geoff by May 10th – we’re ready to fill our empty van before returning to the Studio!  Thank you.
