Geoff Builds Expandable Dining Room Table

Posted on: June 11th, 2013 by Geoffrey Warner No Comments

Geoff’s Latest Furniture Design:  Last week Geoffrey Warner Studio completed a large Dining Room Table. This stunning cherry table has a 54″ diameter and when the 3 leaves are inserted, the table expands to 90″.

This custom wooden table will seat 6 to 12.  Owl Chairs in cherry are also being made to accompany the table.   Here’s a brief video of Geoff finishing the table: http://youtu.be/Edr0p9mOV10

Inspiration for the  tables base stems from nature and the art nouveau design period from over 100 years ago. The sawn knees and legs are hand-shaped round and hard edged in order to reveal a graceful flow of form, enhanced by the play of  light and shadow.

These are details that Geoff has refined and grown fond of  over the years, and now refers to as part of his design vocabulary.

Do you have a furniture wish list?  Geoff is now accepting new commissions.

Looking Ahead….Mark your calendar for the first Stonington Galleries First Friday, July 5th. GW Studio will host a grand event with music…more details coming soon.

As always, thank you for your interest in our custom & Owl Furniture.

GWS Recieves MTI Grant for Ergonomic Study

Posted on: May 23rd, 2013 by Geoffrey Warner No Comments

Geoffrey Warner Studio is pleased to announce the receipt of a Maine Technology Institute (MTI) grant for the purpose of further exploring the ergonomic benefits of the Owl Stool.  The $5,000 grant was received from MTI/Capital and Commercialization for Research and Development.

The process of evaluating the Owl Stools began by delivering four stool versions to US Ergonomics, located in Sea Cliff, NY.  The versions vary by the angle of the seat and the contours of the edge of the seat.

Below is an image showing US Ergo staff testing Iana’s sit pressures on a Rolling Owl — notice the computer screen showing pressure points. The Study will evaluate comfort and the healthy postural support of our line of ergonomic Owl seating. We expect to receive the study results by mid summer.

Many of our customers who suffer from back and other related pains, have found they can sit for hours and receive great relief from the Owl. Visit our testimonial page for more information.

Wentworth Intern Assists with New Designs

Posted on: May 8th, 2013 by Geoffrey Warner 2 Comments

Christina Fenton, our intern from Wentworth Institute of Technology, aided us with several projects during her 3 month co-op.  Christina excelled in graphic design and a willingness to jump into any project! She provided assistance with projects ranging from a new trade show banner to tackling the conceptual drawings for two of Geoff’s new designs.  The two new accessories for our Rolling Owl Stools are the Wing and the Back.  The Owl Wing will provide an adjustable work surface for tablets or laptops.  The Owl Back will also be adjustable to ensure that the “sit bones” are positioned to maximize the ergonomic comfort of the Owl stool. Christina’s outstanding conceptual drawings are below.

We would like to thank Wentworth Institute of Technology for offering the Co-op Program.  It was a tremendously positive experience.  Christina’s skills, enthusiasm, and initiative accelerated the progress on all of her projects.  In addition to her design work, Christina also began sourcing parts and manufacturers for the the Rolling Owl accessories.

The 3 months flew by– it was difficult to see Christina leave our nest!  We thank Christina for her contributions and wish her the best in her future pursuits. We know that she will be a success where ever she lands after graduation.  To see more of Christina’s industrial designs visit: www.christinafenton.com.

Stay tuned for more information about the Wing and Back!

Another Happy Customer!

Here’s a great testimonial from a recent customer who found relief in her Owl Stools–she bought 3!

39 years ago, at the age of 22, I had my first back surgery for a ruptured disc.  When I was 36, I had two more surgeries.   My focus since my first surgery has been on prevention of back pain.  I exercise faithfully, and I have had a pain free life for the most part.  This is not to say I don’t have my limitations.  The first limitation is the kind of chair, couch or stool I am sitting in.  I avoid most of them, as they make my back feel uncomfortable and unstable, and often choose to sit on the floor instead.  When I purchased the Owl Stool, I experienced INSTANT back relief.  It was as if I was floating on air.  For the first time in nearly 40 years, I can sit without a worry in the world!  Thank you for giving me a big part of my life back! – Susie D.  Portland, ME.

Susie, thank you for sharing your story — we appreciate your kind words!

We enjoy hearing from our customers, please drop us a note anytime.

When we last “spoke” we were headed to NYC for the Architectural Digest Show.  It was an amazing experience.  We met wonderful and interesting people and, of course, we enjoyed sharing the joy of finding just the right seat with everyone we met!  Below is a peak at Geoff & Iana in our booth.  The Rolling Owl Stools continue to be the most popular item!

Wentworth Intern Helps Develop Banner!

Posted on: February 27th, 2013 by Geoffrey Warner No Comments

Our industrial design intern has been working on many new things!  Christina Fenton from Wentworth Institute of Technology has been using her computer skills to help develop our company banner.  We are excited to receive our final prints to display at the Architectural Digest Home Design Show in NYC this March!

Let’s take a look at how the banner evolved.   This is the first draft of our banner in our digital ‘booth’.  Our advisers thought the skeleton was a little too ghoulish, so we went back to the drawing board.

Original Sample

In the final version of our banner, we decided to focus on the building process and our team’s attention to detail.  Here is a sneak peak of our 8 by 8 foot banner that will debut in the Architectural Digest Show.  The banner will be a great backdrop for our colorful Owl Stools.

2013 New Owl® Pricing

Posted on: February 21st, 2013 by Geoffrey Warner No Comments

Greetings from Maine,

2013 is expected to be a very exciting year for Geoffrey Warner Studio.  We hope it will be a year of growth and new products.

Our review of the last few years revealed that our goal to sell our products at the lowest price possible has hindered our ability to sustain the business and hire needed workers.

For 2013, we must raise our Owl® Furniture prices.  New Prices will take effect on February 26th. **

New 2013 MSRP Pricing for our most popular sellers will be:

3 legged 18” Owl Stool: $360

3 legged 24” Owl Stool: $430

4 legged 24” Owl Stool: $495

4 legged 25-32” Owl Bar Stool: $525

Rolling Owl Stool: $595

Owl Perch: $675

**For current friends and their friends, we will honor our 2012 pricing through March 10th.  To order, call or email us and use Code “FRIENDS2012.”

One of our founding philosophies for Owl Furniture was to offer fine furniture that would be affordable to friends, neighbors, and everyone. We will continue to honor that philosophy through the continued offering of our 3 legged wooden stools, Owl Stool Kits and workshops.  We will also offer special discounts to our friends and supporters through our monthly e-newsletter.  Be sure to sign-up (email us or enter your email at the bottom of all website pages).

As we move forward, we will remain committed to building the finest ergonomic, hand-crafted furniture in Maine.  Each Owl Seat is made from renewable American cherry or walnut and will continue to be hand-finished to bring out the natural beauty of the wood grain.

For those who have purchased Owl Stools, please send us your testimonials.  We appreciate the stories of comfort and pain relief.  Your kind words have inspired our new tag line “Love your back!”

Thank you again for your continued support.

Sincerely,

‘Tis the Season for Owl Chairs!

Posted on: December 7th, 2012 by Geoffrey Warner No Comments

There has been a lot of action happening down in the shop in the recent weeks! Everyone has been working long hours preparing orders of multiple Owl Chairs and 4 Legged Owl Stools with Backs. Below are just a few images of Geoff, Steve and Iana hard at work putting together the chairs, and having fun while doing it.

These images are of the two 24″ Walnut Owl Chairs being made:

It's never, "all work and no play" with these two!
As well as the 24″ Owl Chair, we are finishing up 2 pairs of 24″ 4 Legged Owl Stools with backs (as shown in the picture below). The Owl Chairs back extends to the floor in a fantail shape becoming the back leg structure for the chair (as shown in the photos above).
