Common Ground and Techwalk

Posted on: September 15th, 2014 by Geoffrey Warner No Comments

There is a time of year when the weather starts to get colder, the air becomes chilled and laced with the first hints of wood stove smoke. That is when we start to get very excited for the beginning of autumn. Not only because of the cooler temperatures, apple cider, colorful foliage and pumpkins, but because this is the season that brings us one of our favorite destinations. And here at Geoffrey Warner Studio, we are hard at work revving up the production to make this weekend’s Common Ground Country Fair the best yet.

Alan is working hard to bring as many Owls to the fair as possible!

Here are our new booth floors, clear coated and ready for your feet!

Come visit us in the Maine Marketplace East Tent, near the Pine Gate, on September 19, 20th and 21st in Unity Maine. If you’re lucky you might even see Geoff dancing and playing his fiddle!

But the Common Ground isn’t the only event coming up. We’re excited to be among the over 800 vendors at this years MTI Techwalk!

Maine Technology Institute’s (MTI) annual TechWalk will be held at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor on Thursday October 2, 2014. The theme of this years TechWalk is “Connecting Through Technology,” and will feature Victor Hwang, Founder and CEO of T2 Venture Creation, as the keynote speaker. Hwang is the author of the well-known book, The Rainforest: The Secret to Building the Next Silicon Valley.Visit us at Exhibit Space # 5F in the Grand Foyer. The new Pro Owl, designed for the Healthcare Industry, will be on display and MTI has selected a Pro Owl with a cherry seat to be given away as a Techwalk prize!

Polly the Champion

Visualize Gold

Ah, the faithful shop dog. They do not ask for recognition for their never ending dedication to the job they were entrusted with. The unfailing work ethic is an inspiration to all their two-legged coworkers. No matter how enthusiastically you greet your customers, you can never hope to outdo the salutations of a wagging tail and little woof of pleasure. A dog has the unique ability to make every customer feel special and wanted the second they walk through the door. No dog performs this task with more stoic grace than Polly the labradoodle.

She has been tirelessly performing her job at Geoffrey Warner Studio for nearly three years. Countless vacationers, travelers, casual shoppers, and avid buyers have patted the well deserving head of Polly. There are no trophies awarded for the hard work of a shop dog. Polly may never find herself on the cover of Cosmo or stand on the golden podium of the 2016 Summer Olympic, but this does not bother her, because she doesn’t do it for the recognition… until now.

The 12th Annual World Championship Boatyard Dog Trials are this Sunday. Polly has been training all season, running the beaches, chasing the stick, doing laps in the salty brine. She faces six seasoned competitors all raring to take home the glorious Pup Cup. At the Champion Ship last year Polly was excited just to be an alternate and perhaps get the chance to sniff the winner, a Portuguese water dog by the name of Ruffles. The competitive bug must have rubbed off on her, because now she is one montage away from changing her name to Rocky.

If you are in the Rockland area this Sunday, stop by the Maine Boats, Homes and Harbors Show around 10:30. Polly’s employers, Geoffrey Warner Studio will be there, showing off the fantastic Owl Stools, and cheering on their budding champion. Drop by their booth, try out the superior comfort of the Owl Stool, then watch Polly navigate the three harrowing events of the competition. See her run the “Dockside Obstacle Course”, Jump the “Dinghy Hop”, and capture the “Freestyle” with her secret routine. Look out Ruffles, you’ve got a challenger this year. May the best dog win.

GWS Recieves MTI Grant for Ergonomic Study

Posted on: May 23rd, 2013 by Geoffrey Warner No Comments

Geoffrey Warner Studio is pleased to announce the receipt of a Maine Technology Institute (MTI) grant for the purpose of further exploring the ergonomic benefits of the Owl Stool.  The $5,000 grant was received from MTI/Capital and Commercialization for Research and Development.

The process of evaluating the Owl Stools began by delivering four stool versions to US Ergonomics, located in Sea Cliff, NY.  The versions vary by the angle of the seat and the contours of the edge of the seat.

Below is an image showing US Ergo staff testing Iana’s sit pressures on a Rolling Owl — notice the computer screen showing pressure points. The Study will evaluate comfort and the healthy postural support of our line of ergonomic Owl seating. We expect to receive the study results by mid summer.

Many of our customers who suffer from back and other related pains, have found they can sit for hours and receive great relief from the Owl. Visit our testimonial page for more information.

Another Happy Customer!

Here’s a great testimonial from a recent customer who found relief in her Owl Stools–she bought 3!

39 years ago, at the age of 22, I had my first back surgery for a ruptured disc.  When I was 36, I had two more surgeries.   My focus since my first surgery has been on prevention of back pain.  I exercise faithfully, and I have had a pain free life for the most part.  This is not to say I don’t have my limitations.  The first limitation is the kind of chair, couch or stool I am sitting in.  I avoid most of them, as they make my back feel uncomfortable and unstable, and often choose to sit on the floor instead.  When I purchased the Owl Stool, I experienced INSTANT back relief.  It was as if I was floating on air.  For the first time in nearly 40 years, I can sit without a worry in the world!  Thank you for giving me a big part of my life back! – Susie D.  Portland, ME.

Wentworth Intern Helps Develop Banner!

Posted on: February 27th, 2013 by Geoffrey Warner No Comments

Our industrial design intern has been working on many new things!  Christina Fenton from Wentworth Institute of Technology has been using her computer skills to help develop our company banner.  We are excited to receive our final prints to display at the Architectural Digest Home Design Show in NYC this March!

Let’s take a look at how the banner evolved.   This is the first draft of our banner in our digital ‘booth’.  Our advisers thought the skeleton was a little too ghoulish, so we went back to the drawing board.

Original Sample

In the final version of our banner, we decided to focus on the building process and our team’s attention to detail.  Here is a sneak peak of our 8 by 8 foot banner that will debut in the Architectural Digest Show.  The banner will be a great backdrop for our colorful Owl Stools.

Website Launch Approaches

Posted on: April 10th, 2012 by Geoffrey Warner No Comments

After months of design work and painstaking adjustment our efforts are just about to bear fruit. Iana designed our new website during the winter and turning it into a fully functional website with the able assistance of two patient souls half a world away has taken weeks but has also resulted in much learning and, we think, a beautiful new experience for visitors to our website. The new look highlights the beauty of the amazing woods we are privileged to use and features images from our growing photo archives that speak volumes about why we do what we do and how others are drawn into our world of handcrafted furniture and innovative design here on the tip of a little island off the coast of Maine.

We hope you will enjoy the new website and continue  let us know how we can serve your needs going forward.
