In July we hired Vaughn Maree as shop assistant. He has been learning the fine craft of furniture making now for over three months. Vaughnʼs high spirited attitude has been a joy to be around in the shop. He has learned quickly and has earned the nick name Owl Meister, for keeping on top of OWL stool orders.
His passion is the surfing that he grew up with in Cape Town, South Africa. Itʼs hard to catch a wave in Stonington Maine, but he has inspired us to ride a big one down to the Providence Fine Furnishings Show this coming weekend, where the Stonington Continuous Arm Chair was featured in the Providence Journal just last Saturday.
Here we are gluing the desk together.

Vaughn oiling the Tasmanian Blackwood desk top. Itʼs bound for a new home in NY City after a showing this weekend in Providence.
Wren, Geoffʼs daughter, is helping by applying a final oiling to the walnut desk base.
The OWL chair was designed to meet requests to make OWL stools with backs. Here we are gluing one together.
One of the signature OWL stools that will be available for sale at the Providence show. A nice description by our local chiropractor is: “Don’t think stool. This is an ergonomically designed, doctor evaluated postural support, which eases both spine tension and sitting pressures. An aesthetic balance has been struck between beautiful form and healthy spinal support.”
A parliament of OWL seats poised to migrate down to this weekendsʼ show. We are attending to final details making ready to surf down to Providence RI.
