Parliament Collection, Owl chairs and dining table

Posted on: May 4th, 2010 by Geoffrey Warner 1 Comment

We are introducing the Owl Chair here, in a set of four with a dining table measuring 38″ X 64″X 30″.  Materials are solid walnut with a hand rubbed tung oil finish. The top is of four boards matched from the same log . The Owl chairs feature an exposed through tenon, attaching the bent laminated back slat to the beautifully shaped seat and a whimsically detailed crest that functions as a hand hole for easy shuffling. These chairs are light, strong, comfortable, and will be reasonably priced, soon to be offered through our website.

An island shore from Eric Hopkins painting winds into the irregular live edge of the 14′ long conference table, finally resting at home in the grand office suite in Portland. It’s nice to have it done, and what a wonderful commission !

We are back from delivering furniture to NY

A few weeks ago Iana and I loaded up the van and delivered furniture to customers in NY. A parliament of Owl chairs, and a walnut dining table, some owl stools, and two  Stonington continuous arm chairs made of cherry. We were fortunate to have built in an extra day and night to enjoy the glory of spring, at it’s peak in Central Park, after being  happily greeted by our customers. I had a chance to go sailing and Iana was able to lounge about in a cherry tree, while surrounded by its blossoms ! The horse and buggy looked to slow for our eager pace ….so  next we hiked over to the east side for a visit to the Guggenheim …..and then more restaurants !  What a great first part of our vacation after working so hard all winter long

Just minutes before the movers came ant took the table and desk away I took these pictures. Many people miss this perspective . Some people can’t avoid it . Either way next time you have the opportunity to see some beautiful furniture, don’t be shy to explore from all angles.

We will be stopping in to attach the tops to the bases on our way dow to NY and to photograph these two pieces in their new office space in Portland.

Stay tuned for more pictures when we get back

Designing the Owl Chair

Owl Play

Oiling the next parliament  of stools.

Serious sanding.

Another busy day on the foggy coast of Maine. We’re been sanding and oiling Owl Stools and a walnut dining room table. The design for the new Owl Chair is coming together and filling the shop with new parts and jigs. The conference table and desk were picked up last week so there is now room for new projects to begin.

Today was the last day for Jasmine. She’s off to Mystic Connecticut to work on the Schooner Brilliant.  Luckily we’ve had the help of Wren for the last couple days, who has brought laughter and spunk to endless sanding and oiling. Now that’s it’s Spring it’s getting harder and harder to stay inside…..

This week we will be finishing the 14′ long conference table made from one beautiful big leaf maple board, and the desk made from a very unique single board , 7′ x 33″  from an old olive tree.

We are very excited about this work and would like to invite you to come and see these furniture pieces Wed. evening from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm at Geoffrey Warner Studio, with music by Archipelago.

Nitty Gritty

While it is such a joy to be surrounded by these graceful shapes, much work goes into that grace. Notice the contrast between the rough legs and what they look like after Jasmine has finished shaping them.

Making parts for the big conference table and desk

Here we are drafting and making the conference table and desk parts. Moving forward through time day by day, many little parts become one. Curves, and  shapely details, positive and negative forms, functual sculpture in maple becoming furniture. We’re having fun ! Two weeks until completion….go go go.
